R. John Geraghty passed away peacefully at the Veteran’s Home in Union Grove, WI on January 20, 2015 with his family by his side. John was born in Racine, Wisconsin on April 14, 1932 to Ralph and Bertha (nee: Cote) Geraghty. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School where he served as an Altar Boy and was involved in Scouting. John graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1950”.

Shortly after his High School graduation, John joined the Air Force Reserves located at O’Hare Field and was then relocated to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. John was called to Active Duty during the Korean War. He proudly served his country with the 437th Troop Carrier Wing based in Japan, arriving in 1950.

John was united in marriage to Mary Ann Kiernan on August 6, 1955 at St. John Nepomuk Church. He was employed in Banking for 43 years starting at First National Bank as a teller and working his way up to Vice President. John retired from Chase Bank in 1995. He was much respected by his fellow employees and customers.

John was a man of many talents, loved tending his rose garden, played the guitar in the Lloyd Wolfe Quartet, restored antiques and built furniture for his home and children. In 1973 John and Mary Ann built a home in Mount Pleasant’s Geraghty Estates subdivision which was located on his grandfather Edward Geraghty’s farmland. John was also proud of his Irish Heritage, traveling to Ireland on several occasions.

John is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann of 59 years, his five children, Patrick (Merja) Geraghty, Colleen Geraghty, Katie Geraghty, Eileen (Jeff) Geraghty, Ann (Larry) Larson; his grandchildren, Bryan Geraghty, Megan, Gretchen, Garrett Olson, John and Sara Larson. He is also survived by his sisters Patricia Auchter and Peg Geraghty; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Bertha (Nee: Cote) Geraghty; and sister, Kathleen Rose Geraghty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 29, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6400 Spring St. with Rev. William Dietzler officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. Private interment with Full Military Honors will be held at Holy Family Cemetery, Hwy 31. Memorials may be directed to St. Catherine’s High School or the Veteran’s Administration.
