Herman H. Broene

Broene, Herman H. Herman H. Broene, age 94, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014, ending this portion of his faith journey and moving on to his heavenly home by faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior. He joins his wife, Ruth, who preceded him in death in August of 2013. Herman was born in Grand Rapids and educated at Grand Rapids Christian Schools and Calvin College. He received his PhD in chemistry from Purdue University. He spent the next 10 years doing research at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, NY. In 1956, he and his family moved to Grand Rapids, where he taught chemistry at Calvin College for the next 28 years. He was a member of Fuller Ave. Christian Reformed Church. Herman is survived by his children, Mary and Russell Pollard of Ashland, MA, Jane and Paul Schut of Byron Center, and Thomas and Pamela Broene of Silver Spring, MD. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Annette Broene and Elizabeth Waggener and several nephews and nieces. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Gilbert. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 11 AM at the Raybrook Manor Chapel, 2121 Raybrook SE. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 PM at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton SE, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at Raybrook Manor. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvin College or World Renew.
