Larry Johnston

Larry Lee Johnston, Portage, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Bronson Hospital at the age of 77. Larry was born in Kalamazoo on May 24, 1937 the son of the late Lawrence and Lucinda (Brewer) Johnston. He worked in sales for Hammond Roto Finish for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Natalia (Batenina) Johnston; five children, Stephan (Shelly) Johnston of Alexander City, AL, Denise (Brad) Hessler of Paw Paw, Bruce (Shelley) Johnston of Portage, Denis Usaty of St. Petersburg, Russia and Alex Batenin of St. Petersburg, Russia; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Johnston. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, October 24 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Avenue, Portage, MI 49002, where friends may visit with the family from 10:30 AM until the service. Rev. James Dyke will officiate with interment to follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
