Ruth Braham

Ruth Mary Braham, age 92, passed away August 28, 2014 at Friendship Village Health Center in Kalamazoo. Ruth was born March 23, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Sena (VanHaften) Sagers and was a lifelong resident. She received her Bachelor Degree from Western Michigan University and throughout the years had taught in public schools. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo. Ruth was an avid reader and a lover of the arts, an enthusiastic traveler, a great cook. Throughout her life she had a wide circle of friends who she loved, and she was the center of her family's life for many decades. On September 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Douglas B. Braham, who preceded her in death on July 16, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by two sisters, Nell Schwartz and Kathleen Borders; and by a son, William Braham in 1982. Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Barbara) Braham of Hollywood, FL and James Braham of Kalamazoo; a granddaughter, Anita Braham; a sister, Eleanor (George) Mesko and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with Ruth's wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Service to Celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo (321 W. South St.) with Rev. Mary Van Andel officiating. A private ceremony will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorials in Ruth's memory may be directed to a Parkinson's Disease Research Fund of your choice or a charity of your choice .
