Margaret C. Egan, 97, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Battle Creek, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at The Springs at the Fountains in Kalamazoo. She was born June 2, 1917 in Battle Creek to James and Mary Theresa (Farrell) Cleary. She graduated from St. Philip Catholic High School in 1935 and earned a bachelors and masters degree from the University of Michigan in political science in 1941. She was the assistant Civilian Personnel Officer at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek during World War II. She met her husband, Frank B. Egan at Percy Jones and they were married in the hospital chapel on June 21, 1945 in an evening Mass. She was a member of St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo and a former longtime member of St. Philip Catholic Church in Battle Creek. She resided at the Fountains at Bronson Place in Kalamazoo for many years where he enjoyed many activities with other residents and playing cards with friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank on December 29, 1993; a daughter, Mary Theresa Egan on July 26, 1991; and by a sister, Patricia C. Power. Surviving are nephew, John R. (Judy) Power Jr.; and his children, Jack and Jordan Power of Winfield, Illinois; and niece Mary (Michael Schmidt) Power of Washington, D.C. Visitation will take place Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Shaw Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place, 11:00 AM, Friday, August 29, 2014 a St. Philp Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Fleckenstein, V.E., officiating. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Philip Catholic Church, 112 Capital Ave., N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017, or to the charity of one's choice. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
