Joyce Fitzstephens

Joyce was born November 14, 1940 in Three Rivers, MI, the daughter of John and Helen Schmidt of Schoolcraft, MI. She passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 with her sons at her side after a long illness. She graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1958 and was a lifelong resident of the Schoolcraft area. Her career path led her to Western Michigan University where she retired after many years in administrative positions. Joyce is survived by her sisters, Joan Stiver, Norma Schmidt, Linda Krum (David) and her five sons, Michael (Sandy), Dan, Tim, David and Scott Fitzstephens; seven grand-children and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bernard Schmidt, and brother-in-law, Harold Stiver. Cremation has taken place and the family will have a private burial service. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 29th from 4-7 PM at the Avink Funeral home, Schoolcraft, MI. At the family's request, please send donations in her memory to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan in lieu of flowers.
