Harry J Ward, age 62, of Kalamazoo passed away July 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1952, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Edgar and Barbara Ward. Harry was an avid sports fan (Go Tigers), hunter and fisherman and loved camping with family. He graduated in 1970 from Alma High School with nine varsity sports letters. He played baseball at Ferris State with a record still standing. Harry worked at the Michigan Masonic Home in Alma, the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint and finally at Hydromatic/American Axle in Three Rivers as a Power Engineer for 29 years until his retirement in 2008. Harry is survived by his life partner of 29 years, Dawn Pio; his mother, Barb; son, Jake (Amanda) Ward; granddaughters, Haylie and Savannah; sisters, Dianne (Tim) Low, Terri (Rod) Marshall, Sharon (Rob) Audsley; brothers, Michael Ward, Mark (Linda) Ward; and many nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Ward and brother, Norman Ward. Cremation has taken place and graveside service will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Southwest Michigan Cancer Center, Kalamazoo or Southwest Michigan Hospice, Kalamazoo. Special thanks to Dr. Chandana and the staff at the cancer center.
