Maile, William Stuart 3/22/1933 - 12/30/2020 Geneva, IL Bill (Lefty) Maile passed away peacefully Wednesday December 30, 2020 in Geneva, Illinois at 87 years old. Bill would have said "died", as he did not do subtle. Bill was born March 22,1933 in Schoolcraft, MI and graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1952. He enlisted inthe U.S. Air Force and served from1952-56 with a tour in Korea. He worked as draftsman at Kingscott Associates in Kalamazoo, MI until moving to Petoskey, MI and opening the Side Door Saloon in 1969. Bill and Janet ran the bar for 29 years until 1997. They earned "Best Burger in Town" for several years. Bill was well known for using $2.00 bills when returning change. In retirement Bill traveled the world visiting New Zealand, Europe, and Asia;crafted wood furniture, tended his gardenand took care of his lawn while continuing his enjoyment of an occasional "room temperature" Budweiser. He was a proud member of the American Legion and VFW. Bill is survived by his daughter Darcy Maile (James Sholar) of Elgin, IL, stepsons Richard Lenard (Dorothy) of La Crosse, WI, and Thomas Lenard (Wendy Chabot) ofBradenton Beach, FL; as well as grandchildren Amy Lenard (Binit Mohanty); Timothy (Sarah) Lenard and Gregory (Anna) Lenard along with many nieces and nephews in southern Michigan. He was preceded in death by Janet Maile, his wife of 37 years, in 1997; parents Donald and Mildred; and siblings Richard, Jack, Betty and Jeanette. There will be no services at this time, in Lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity or the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation.
