Walt Waltz of Meza, AZ formerly of Kalamazoo, MI., died peacefully at his residence, Las Palomas Senior Living, on August 1, 2023. Walt was born August 11, 1940 in Detroit, MI the second child to Rose Mary (Caloia) and Henry John Waltz. He was the captain of the Kalamazoo Central baseball team and graduated with the class of 1958. Walt worked in the soft drink business for over 35 years in sales, supervision and ultimately as a branch manager. Later in 1998, he became an insurance agent and formed Legacy Secure Strategies that kept him active with clients until 2022. Sports, especially baseball were important to Walt throughout his life. He coached at Eastwood Little League for 19 years where he also ran the concession stand. Walt continued playing competitive recreational ball into his 60's and he loved to follow his grandchildren in their sports. Walt and his wife Jane moved to AZ in 2002. In addition to caring for Jane's daughter Laura for over 20 years, they enjoyed visiting the summer cottage in South Haven and many trips around the world. Surviving are 3 children with his first wife; James (Jean) Hiscock, Gerielle (Lee) Stewart, Melanie (Pat Dillon) Waltz, 3 grandchildren; Melissa Hiscock, Brett (Samantha) Stewart, Ariana Stewart and 1 great grand-child, Noah Stewart, all who survive him. On March 4, 2000 he was united into marriage with Mary Jane (Betzler) Waltz which added her 4 children to the family; Bruce (Sharon) Betzler, Trisha (Ron) Pemberton, Scott (Julie) Betzler, Laura Betzler, and four grandchildren; Mitchell and Allison Pemberton and Cooper and Camryn Betzler. Also surviving are 2 siblings; Caroline (Jim) Oliver, Carl (Patty) Waltz, 2 nieces and a nephew. Graveside services will take place Thursday 11:30AM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
