W.Allan Gearig, of Portage, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He was 83 years old, born on April 8, 1942, in Wauseon, Ohio, to the late Wendell E. and Bernadine (Eagle) Gearig.
Growing up on a farm instilled in Allan a strong work ethic that characterized his life and his successful career. For over 40 years, Allan dedicated his professional life to health care management, serving as a Chief Financial Officer. He was a man of integrity who positively influenced many throughout his years. On May 4, 1963, Allan married Mary Jo Conrad, and they shared nearly 62 wonderful years together.
Allan was deeply involved in his community through his dedicated participation in the Rotary Club of Vicksburg and The Hospital Financial Management Association.
In his leisure time, Allan found joy in woodworking, playing golf, and pursuing his passion for photography. He particularly enjoyed capturing the beauty of nature and the excitement of his grandchildren's sporting events.
Allan is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo (Conrad); his children, Wendy (Bill) Johnston and David (Christine) Gearig; his cherished grandchildren, Breanne (Peter) Kern, Lindsey (Patrick Henderson) Johnston, Savannah (Tony) Scinta, Nicholas (Sarah) Johnston, Justin (Kinzie) Gearig, Timothy (Sydney) Gearig, and Samuel (Kali) Gearig; and his adored great-grandchild, Maisy Jo Gearig.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carolyn Nafziger.
In accordance with Allan's wishes, a private family graveside service will take place at Vicksburg Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Allan's life on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, located at 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. Following the memorial service, guests are welcome to greet the family and enjoy light refreshments.
