Thomas Summers

Thomas R. Summers, age 85 of Jackson, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1940, in Three Rivers, Michigan, the son of John G. and Mildred (Brinkman) Summers. Tom grew up in Cooper and was a 1958 graduate of Plainwell High School. On October 14, 1961, Tom married his high school sweetheart, Eileen Kuiper and they were blessed with three children. Tom worked for UPS as a delivery driver, and later had the management of several centers. He retired as a personnel manager in 1995, after 33 years with the company. Tom and Eileen moved to Florida for 24 years, making many friends and memories. Seven years ago, they returned to Michigan, settling in Jackson to be near their children. Tom loved sailing and spent some of his best days on the Great Lakes aboard his multiple vessels. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Summers; his children: Christine Diehl, Thomas (Rie) Summers and Tessie (Phil) Gill; his grandchildren: Sarah Summers, Lisa (Daiki) Hirasawa, Joseph Diehl, Gina Diehl, Melinda (Wayne) Williams, Philbert Gill, Thomas Gill, and Elisabeth Gill; his sister Karen Keene; his brother Michael (Virginia) Summers and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David and his brother-in-law Donald Keene. Friends may join his family on Monday, June 15th from 1:00-2:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services 3926 S. 9th Street Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where his funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Alamo Center Cemetery. There will be refreshments served in the Alamo Township Hall adjacent to the cemetery.
