Sloan, Thomas Whitcomb 7/23/1951 - 5/4/2021 Portage, Michigan Thomas Whitcomb Sloan, aged 69, went to his true home and met his savior Jesus face to face on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Tom was born at Borgess Hospital on July 23, 1951 to James Thomas Sloan, Jr. and Mildred Elouise (Whitcomb) Sloan. Tom was raised in Kalamazoo and Graduated from Hackett Catholic High School in 1970. Tom took great pride in graduating from Hackett and spoke fondly of the many friends and memories he made while there. Tom and his wife Julie (Rockey) Sloan were married in Albion, Michigan on April 25, 1987. They enjoyed many years together. Tom's father was a respected attorney in Kalamazoo and Tom inherited his love for the law. Tom worked as process server delivering legal papers and Julie was Tom's driver as they traveled southwest Michigan. Tom had an extensive legal vocabulary and a quick mind that suited him well in his occupation. After retiring as a process server Tom still loved to work and volunteered his time and efforts around town. Tom was often found at the local pharmacy, by his house, with a jacket and tie on, volunteering to help the employees sweep the floors and take out the trash. Customers have mistaken Tom for the store manager even though he was not employed there, but was glad to help them find whatever they needed. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Julie Sloan. Following Julie's passing Tom began attending Berean Baptist Church in Portage. While at Berean Baptist Tom recognized that he needed a Savior and that Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection had paid the penalty for his sin. Tom accepted Jesus as his personal savior and was an active member, attending services every Sunday, serving as an usher, handing out bulletins, collecting the offering, and bringing friends to church with him. Tom is survived by his brother Craig Sloan, niece Jocelyn Sloan, nephew Evan Sloan, and his good friend Norman Murphy. A memorial service for Tom will be held on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at Berean Baptist Church, 7813 S. 12th Street, Portage, MI 49024.
