Thomas L. Guyer, age 87 of Kalamazoo, died on January 28, 2024. He was born on October 13, 1936, in Flora, Indiana, the son of Lester and Jean (Cripe) Guyer. He was a 1954 graduate of Flora High School and received his bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from Purdue University in 1958. Tom was in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960-1966. On July 12, 1959, he married Brenda McKinley. He was a member of Milwood United Methodist Church. For over 33 years, Tom was a developmental pharmacist for the Upjohn Company until his retirement. In 1980, he won the prestigious Upjohn Award. Growing up, Tom joined generations of his family fishing in the Indian River area and vacationed there every summer for 70 years. Tom enjoyed golfing, fishing, and wood carving. He loved his family dearly and often put their wishes before his own. He had a generous heart and often did nice things for others out of the blue, especially for Brenda. His family includes his wife, Brenda Guyer; his children: Susan (Brad) Shafer and Sarah (John) Boland; his grandchildren: Andrea Shafer and her husband Andrew Estrada, David Shafer, Andrew Boland and Adam Boland; his brothers and sister: Terry (Diana) Guyer, Ned (Elizabeth) Guyer, and Ann (Ray) Sheagley; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 5th, at 12:00 PM, at Milwood United Methodist Church, with Pastor Caleb Williams officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milwood United Methodist Church general fund.
