DE YOUNG - Mr. Ted R. DeYoung, age 80, of Grand Rapids, was welcomed home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 4, 2009. He was an apple, peach, and plum farmer and also worked at Steelcase, a job he handled with pride, beginning in 1955 until his retirement in 1991. Through all the years, Ted was part of the fellowship at Knapp Street Reformed Church. A truly wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, Ted is survived by his loving wife, Gladys, whom he married on February 25, 1949; children, Bev and Mike Cleland, Ted and Mary Jo DeYoung, Tom DeYoung; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Crider, Kristi Cleland and her fiancé, Tim, Tiffanie De Young, Brittanie DeYoung and her fiancé, Matthew, Ted DeYoung, Jr., Beau DeYoung; great grandchildren, Alexis, Kennedy, Averie; brother and sisters, Junior and Louise DeYoung, Mrs. Marian Russ, Darlene and Roger Willett; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara, and brother, John. The service celebrating Ted's physical and faith life will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Knapp St. Reformed Church, 4025 Knapp Street, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Allen Pickett officiating. Interment in Fairplains Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Knapp St. Reformed Church.
