Sylvia G. Rouech, 85, of Bay City is finally free to be a kid again. She died peacefully July 8, 2023 at New Hope Bay with two daughters at her side. She leaves her husband of 65 years, William "Bill" Rouech Sr. of Bay City, daughters Cindy (Randy) Mey of Saginaw; Sandy J. (Jeff) Welch of Alpena; Amy Holt, and sons Rev. Chris Rouech of Comstock Park, MI; and Don (Kristi) Rouech; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her brother, Rob (Pat) of Bay City also survives. She is reunited with her son William Rouech, Jr., granddaughter Katie Welch, son-in-law Jeff L. Holt, 4 sisters and 7 brothers. Sylvia was born Sept. 22, 1937 in Porstmouth Township; the 13th child of the late Frank and Sylvia VanDenBoom. In the early 1940s her family moved to a larger farm in Munger where they attended St. Norbert Catholic Parish. Sylvia graduated from St. Joseph High School in Bay City in 1955. She married Bill Sept. 15, 1957, at St. Norbert's. Along with raising their six children, Sylvia was bookkeeper for Rouech Farms and supplemented the family income with various part-time jobs as secretary and bookkeeper. Her employment history includes Wolverine Knitting Mills, Lindbergh's and Eddie's flower shops and St. Hyacinth Catholic Parish. Sylvia's all-time favorite job was administrative secretary at Delta College's Career Planning and Placement Services. She thrived there and earned her associate degree in liberal arts at the age of 60. Sylvia volunteered throughout life. She was part of the prayer line and funeral luncheon ministries for St. Hyacinth Parish, a hospice volunteer and a donor and volunteer for the Michigan Community Blood Bank.

Her surviving grandchildren are R.J. Mey, Ferndale; Ben (Marcy) Mey, Midland; Brent (Tara) Welch, Bay City; Elizabeth Rouech (Will Stickle), Indianapolis, William Rouech III of Fond du Lac, WI, Genevieve Holt and Olivia Rouech. She also has two great-grandsons: Lukas and Liam Mey. The family is immensely grateful to the staff of Golden Horizons, New Hope Valley Assisted Living of Saginaw, New Hope Bay Memory Care of Bay City, and The Care Team Hospice. FUNERAL ARRANGMENTS: Visitation 3-7 pm July 12, Ambrose Funeral Home, 1200 Garfield Ave, Bay City. Vigil at 6pm. Funeral Mass 11 am, July 13 at All Saints Catholic Parish-St. James Church,. Bay City. One hour of visitation will precede the Mass. Lunch served immediately after the funeral. Committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
