Susan Pifer

Sue Pifer, 85 years old from Portage, passed away on August 13th, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born on August 29, 1940, in Castleton, New York, the daughter of William and Mary (Valli) Finch. On January 10, 1959, she was united in marriage to Bill Pifer her high school sweetheart sharing 58 years together until his passing in 2017. Sue was last employed at JM Wilson as an experienced insurance agent with close to four decades of experience. She was an avid reader, loved crosswords, gardening and all animals. Sue took great joy in being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved playing board games, puzzles and spending summers vacationing at lake cottages with her family.

Surviving are her four daughters: Brenda (Patrick) Quinn of NC, Tammy (Victor) Heckman of Kalamazoo, Amy Pifer of Kalamazoo and Holly (Peter) Montalvo of CA; eight grandchildren: Kirby Quinn, Jennifer (Sean) Smith, Katie (Joseph) Lioy, Paul Heckman, Sarah (Tom) Hays, Billy Heckman, Megan Montalvo and Lidia Montalvo; and three great-grandchildren: Owen Heckman, William and Josephine Hays. Preceding her in death were her husband, Billie Pifer on December 6th, 2017, and her only beloved son, Darrell Pifer on August 8th, 2026.

Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may visit Sue's family on Wednesday, August 19th, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave, where a service to celebrate her life will take place from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.

Private family inurnment will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery, Delton at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her memory to Centrica Care Navigators Hospice.
