Susan Marie Holman

Formerly of Onekama, died May 30, 2019, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born Dec. 23, 1952, in Wyandotte, the daughter of Donald and Barbara (Shearer) Holman. Susan studied art and horticulture at Ferris State University and Western Michigan University, but she mainly studied art in the world around her. She was very creative and had a passion for drawing and painting throughout her life and in every aspect of it, including her work, her relaxation and in tending to her beautiful gardens. She had many beloved pets over the years and painted many pet portraits for others. Susan lived most of her adult life in Kalamazoo, but she enjoyed time spent Up North with her family in Onekama. Susan saw the beauty in life; she was spunky and fun, but also very quiet and caring. She was politically engaged and volunteered for activities to improve her community. Her memory will live on in her paintings and her lovely flowers. She will be missed. Susan is survived by: her father, Donald Holman of Onekama; her sisters, Dianne Holman of Okemos, Elizabeth "Betsy" (David) Webb of Manistee, Lynn Chambers of North Ft. Myers, Fla., and Joan (Joe) Peltier of Toledo, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Susan was preceded in death by her mother. To celebrate Susan's life, a memorial gathering will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Fencerows Studio, 8100 E. Main St., Galesburg, MI, where her artwork will be displayed in a special tribute for her love of art.
