Age 74, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at home with her sister by her side. Susan was born in Oakland, California on September 1, 1946, the daughter of the late Clayton L. and Myrtle E. (Brown) Richardson. Susan's family moved to Spokane, Washington during her childhood and would eventually move to Michigan in 1955 where she resided in Kalamazoo for the rest of her life. She was a 1964 graduate of Loy Norrix High School. Susan began working for the Gilmore Company right after high school and remained a faithful employee until its closing in 1999. She retired from Greenleaf Hospitality Group in the spring of 2019. Susan was a loyal fan of the K-Wings Hockey team and a season ticket holder for the past 45 years. She was very fond of animals and especially loved her feline companions, Sasha and Nadia. Susan is survived by her only sister, Myrna Rae Richardson and fourteen cousins, J. Michael, Maurice, Patrick and Jeffrey Brown, Karen Takahashi, Stephanie Ingwaldson, Jerry and Fred Nanson, Sylvia Wolfe, MaryLee Helton, Diana Eickerman-Hoffman, Randy and Jerry Eickerman and Jim Richardson; as well as a host of close friends and good neighbors. A private service will be held for the family at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, followed by interment at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park – South. An open house to celebrate Susan's life and visit with her family will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at 8189 Buck Ave., Galesburg, MI 49053. The family kindly requests face masks be worn, and social distancing guidelines followed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the West Michigan Cancer Center or Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association or that you do not vote for Donald Trump. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Anna Hoekstra and her staff for the compassion and care they gave to Susan to make the final days of her life better.
