Sue Beougher of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, while in hospice at her son's home.

Sue was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the neighborhood grandma to all the children who grew up with her grandchildren. Sue was happiest when she was busy helping others, whether in her garden or her kitchen. There are so many people who have been affected by her generosity and her endless empathy. She was a friend to all, but had a particular soft spot for people who were unsure of where they were going. To them and all others who came to her homes on Maple, Westenedge and finally Axtell, she offered food and advice without hesitation or judgment.

Each of those homes was filled with laughter, love and the smells of her many incredible recipes. The quality and love that went into her recipes and baked goods were known by everyone around her. Her epic New Year's Eve parties will be remembered by those who can actually still recall the festivities following the obligatory end of night Chambord toast.

Sue worked at Western Michigan University for 35 years where she was the driving force for the Campus Classic as well as a source of information and support for students and coworkers across the entire university. With a fierce intellect, she was never afraid to speak her mind, whether at one of the family's many Sunday dinners, on the road shuttling her grandkids as "Grandma Uber," or when watching her beloved Wolverines play football or basketball. She was unquestioningly loyal and protective of her family and friends and, despite her many gifts, had no ego whatsoever. Sue's greatest source of pride was in the achievements of her family, especially her grandchildren. To those who were lucky enough to be in her extended circle of friends and family, there are few who could not relay a story of a time she came through for them in a time of extreme need. She was truly an original and her ilk will not be seen again.

She is survived by her children, Dawne and Mark; her four grandchildren: Glenna, Claire, Simon and Rollin who hope to carry on her legacy of helping others. She is also survived by her sisters Marilyn Kuch and Jackie (Tom) Kennedy and brothers Rod Frost and Rick (Janet) Frost and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Lenore (Poyer) Frost, brother Robert Frost and Sister Janet Kretz.

A celebration of life service will take place from 2-4 pm at O'Duffy's Pub on July 25th, 2026. For more information or to offer condolences, please contact Mark - mbeougher@kalamazoodefender.org or Dawne - beougher@kzoo.edu.
