Steven Raymond Jeconiah Avila, age 40, passed away after a short but courageous battle with intestinal cancer on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital in Greenfield, WI. Steven was born February, 28, 1977, son of Raymond and Delia (Nee: Rodriguez) Avila. Steven attended Racine County Opportunity Center, Wadewitz Elementary School, Gilmore Middle School and J. I. Case High School. He was also a participant at Careers Industries-Racine.

Steve was a gentle soul who liked to make others laugh. Quite often by making funny faces at them, teasing them or sticking his tongue out. He had a childlike sense of humor. He enjoyed watching Wrestling with his father by his side on Monday night or any night for that matter. His other favorite pastime was watching TV shows like Family Feud, The Price is Right and Let’s make a Deal. He enjoyed time spent with his family especially playing cards with his nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Steven was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are his parents, Ray and Del Avila; loving brother, Lukas Avila (Susan Mueller); loving and devoted sister, RayEllen Avila; beloved nephews, Maximilian, Braydon, Benjamin, and beloved niece Liliana; grandmother, Lenora Vallin of Milwaukee, WI; aunts; Gloria Rodriguez, Linda Bautista-Rodriguez, Marian Rodriguez-Garcia (Gregory Poplawski, Sr), Christina (Phil) Bauer, all of Racine, Susan (Thomas) Seeton of Reeseville, WI, and Nora Loera of Milwaukee,WI.; Uncles; Sotero Rodriguez of Seattle, WA, George Rodriguez of Savanna, GA, Abel (Jackie) Rodriguez of Laveen, AZ and Jose (Sherry) Rodriguez of Racine, Robert (Lois) Avila of Mt Pleasant, WI and Joe (Joan) Vallin of Racine. And other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sotero and Francisca Rodriguez, and Joe Vallin; uncles, Guadalupe Avila, Jesse Vallin, Rodolfo Rodriguez; aunt, Helen Rodriguez; special friend and caregiver, Clarence Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 25, 2017, 10:30 A.M. at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church; 3101 Drexel Avenue with Rev. Javier Gutavia officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet Friday at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main St., 5-7 P.M. and on Saturday at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M. until time of Mass.
