Stephen Jay Patton passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 74 in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born on June 8, 1951, in Coldwater, MI.

Steve was one of William and Helen (Kraus) Patton's four children along with his siblings Nancy, Keith and Terry. Family was always very important to Steve, and he enjoyed spending time with those local, out of state and overseas, including Latvia and Australia. He felt fortunate to have attended a one room schoolhouse. He later graduated from Union City High School where he was an athlete and especially enjoyed wrestling.

Steve attended Eastern Michigan University until his draft number was called up. He served with distinction in the Air Force as a Morse Systems Operator, stationed in both Italy and Japan. His military career was marked by his receipt of the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, reflecting his dedication and exemplary conduct during his service.

After his honorable discharge, Steve went back to work until he decided to finish earning his degree. He studied at Northern Michigan University, but there were not enough field placements in the Marquette area, so he transferred to Western Michigan University to complete his degree.

Steve found his professional calling as a social worker and first worked for the ARK and ROI before working for the State of Michigan. He was able to make a significant impact on the lives of many. It was there that he met Laima in 1992, and they married in 1996.

Steve had many interests. Over the years, he enjoyed softball and bowling, but especially loved golf which was his passion. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife, as well as spending time at Lake Michigan. He cared a great deal about people, as well as animals, both of which were drawn to his kind nature.

Steve is survived by his wife, Laima, and extended family in the United States and overseas, as well as many dear friends.

A funeral service to honor Steve's life will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Home 622 S Burdick St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007 on Saturday, August 23rd at 1 PM. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Contributions in Steve's memory can be made to Loaves and Fishes and Kalamazoo Humane Society.
