Stanley Rop

Stanley Russell Rop passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023. He was born December 17, 1947, in Kalamazoo son of Herman and Scharlottie "Lottie" (Rial) Rop. He grew up on Indian Lake in Vicksburg and graduated from Vicksburg High School. He began to work at Meijer and started attending classes at Western Michigan University.

In January 1969, at the age of 21, Stan joined the US Navy as an aviation ordinance technician. He was discharged in December 1972, came home to Kalamazoo and he returned to work at Meijer for almost 48 years before retiring. Stan also returned to WMU and received his degrees in sociology and anthropology.

Stan loved all sports. He enjoyed going to see his favorite teams - Bronco football and hockey, K Wings, Red Wings and Tigers. He attended Lakeland Reformed Church and was an active member of American Legion John B. Westnedge Post 36.

On February 13, 1971, Stan married his high school sweetheart, Judy Raab who preceded him in death on March 26, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister, Connie Hale, and brother, Roger Rop. Stan is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Rop and Stephanie Rop; brothers- and sisters-in law, Melvin (Linda) Raab, Cheryle (Jim) Plews, Valerie Kennedy, and Don (Darlene) Raab; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 4 to 7pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage MI 49002, where services will begin at 1pm on Friday, June 2, 2023.
