Stanley Nelson McKenney Sr., 86 of Allegan, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at home. He was born March 15, 1937, in West Branch, Ogemaw County, Michigan to Robert Raymond McKenney and Annie May Near McKenney. He was married to Delores Marie McCullough on May 16, 1956. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2008. Together they had three children, Stanley Nelson McKenney, Jr., Patti Lynn McKenney and Jeffrey Todd McKenney. He was married to Rebecca Twomley on January 25, 2020. He was a man of faith, a loyal friend, a water well driller, musician, entrepreneur, and "hat man" to name a few of his attributes. When Stanley Jr. was hospitalized at Cleveland Clinic in 2010, Stan Sr. used his musical talents playing his accordion for patients and their families and handing out hats that he had arranged to be crafted by a seamstress from Washburn, Iowa. These acts of kindness brought much joy to the sick children. He was always on the hunt for fun fabrics to send to Denise the seamstress for more hats. Stanley drilled water wells around west Michigan for 40 years. He was a member of the Allegan Seventh-day Adventist Church for 58 years where he served in several roles. For a number of years, he was a part of a group of musicians who play at the McDonald's Restaurant in Allegan on Sunday nights. He also played at numerous jam sessions near his home in Dade City, Florida where he spent winters for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife Delores, his son Jeffrey, and grandsons, David Calvin Van Luven and Alexander Christian. He is survived by his son, Stanley and his wife Donna, and daughter Patti McKenney and her husband David Van Luven. Also surviving are grandchildren, Troy McKenney (Rosemary), Rikki Shosey (Gregory), Dylan Hageman, Corey Van Luven and Sally Van Luven Buskirk (Travis) and 5 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Friends may meet with family at Gorden's Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023, with the service to immediately follow at 2 p.m., Alex Rybachek officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Mallory Cemetery, 913 M-40, Allegan, Michigan, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Stanley's name to Your Story Hour, PO Box 15, Berrien Springs, MI 49103, Farm Stew, PO Box 291, Princeton, IL 61356 and Adventist World Radio, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904-9935.
