Stanley Cash Roberts

Stan was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on May 6, 1939 and became a long-time resident and mechanic extraordinaire in Portage, MI. His parents, Casimier 'Cash' and Dorothy (Olin) Roberts of Kalamazoo preceded him in death. Stan is survived by his wife, Patricia (Dennany Beighler) Roberts with whom he enjoyed 36 years of marriage celebrating family and sharing a love for all animals. Stan died after a sudden illness on September 2, 2020. Stan will be missed by his sister Suzanne (John) Jepson, his three children Jim (Trish) Roberts, Kim (Michael) Nuyen, Denise (David) Bratcher, as well as his step-children Judith Bieghler (Kevin) Yonkers, Jane Bieghler (Dan) Jean, Jill Bieghler (Greg Santora) and Jennifer Bieghler (Derek) Pearson. His 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren will continue Stan's legacy of hard-work and determination. In the 1970's and 1980's, Stan's Service, his Texaco Station on Portage Road, gained a reputation for expert diagnostics, mechanical expertise and having the cleanest station in town. He was proud of his time working on Gordon Johncock's pit crew and continued his love of NASCAR racing throughout his life. Once he sold Stan's Service, he took up small engine repair as his "hobby business" providing used garden tractors, snowblowers and lawn mowers a second life under his care. His love of animals was evidenced by the menagerie he kept both inside and outside his Portage home. Exotic birds, cats, dogs were ever-present in his home, and native birds, squirrels, deer, opossums and raccoons found sanctuary in Stan and Pat's backyard. According to Stan's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will share in a private Celebration of Stan's Life on September 19, 2020 on Crooked Lake in Texas Township on the exact site he spent summers with his parents and sister and later with his own children.
