Skanti Gill

Gill, Skanti "Shani" Skanti "Shani" Gill, age 87, passed away September 17, 2021 in her home. She was born September 16, 1934 in Malawi, Africa to the late Man Singh and Jiwan Dai (Uppal) Duggal. She will be remembered by her family as a true angel. She began her career as a midwife and was later a registered nurse with Borgess hospital for 26 years, working with adolescents. She cared deeply for all the children she supported over the years through her work and contributions to international organizations, as well as those suffering from leprosy. The life she lived is represented in her name, in Sanskrit meaning, "the beautiful sheen of a woman's child." Shani was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Reena Doorlag; as well as her six siblings. She is survived by her husband, Gurnam Gill; daughters, Preeti (Brian) Doorlag and Ajeet (Alex) Fulton; granddaughters, Brianna Doorlag, and Ambika and Araya Fulton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A prayer service will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A public celebration of Shani's life will be held at a later date.
