Shirley Anne (Moss) Bumpus October 14, 1929 - May 4, 2020 Shirley Anne (Moss) Bumpus passed away Monday, May 4, 2020, at Arbor House assisted living home in Traverse City, Michigan, at age 90. She was born in Jackson, Michigan, October 14, 1929, the daughter of Leo and Helen (Dixon) Moss. Shirley was the second eldest of five children, three of whom predeceased her. The youngest, David Moss, and wife Laura, of Jackson, Michigan, survive her. She married Weldon E. Bumpus in Jackson on July 26, 1947. Her husband of 52 years predeceased her. Shirley was a wife, mother, and full-time homemaker. She and Weldon moved to Plainwell, Michigan, in 1956. They relocated to Quincy, Michigan, in 1972 before retiring to Fife Lake, Michigan, in 1975. During their retirement, they both served for several years on the Garfield Township board of trustees in Kalkaska County. Shirley was an avid deer and morel mushroom hunter. Her biggest passion, though, was her church. She and Weldon were part of the founders of Bear Lake Christian Church in Kalkaska, Michigan. They also helped build the log church and served as its officers until Weldon's death in 2000. Surviving are her two sons and three daughters: James (Terrie) Bumpus, Thomas (Ellen) Bumpus, Fae Moore, Susan (Kathleen) Bumpus, and Cheryl (Chris) Everline. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate Shirley's life is planned for July 26, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Bear Lake Christian Church with a luncheon to follow.
