Scott VanDyke

VanDyke, Scott L. 6/17/1956 - 8/17/2022 Portage, MI Scott L. VanDyke of Portage, Mich. passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the age of 66. He was born in Kalamazoo, Mich. on June 17, 1956 the son of Jack and Lois VanDyke. Scott graduated from Portage Central High School in 1975 and during his time there he was a star athlete in football and baseball; he was also known as the 'Portage Central Slugger.' Following graduation, he went on to marry Kolby Berghuis in 1982 and later welcomed their daughter Carly. Carly followed in her father's athletic footsteps and he was her biggest fan and cheerleader. Throughout his life, Scott spent his career in the auto industry, but his real passion was fishing. Scott was an avid fisherman and participated in many bass tournaments with his brother in-law. When Scott and Kolby relocated to the East side of Michigan, he enjoyed taking his boat out on the big lake and attending as many UofM games as possible (GO BLUE!). Scott and Kolby recently moved back home to Portage, Mich. to be closer to family and enjoy retirement. Scott is preceded in his passing by his parents and siblings Paul VanDyke and Nancy Taylor. Left to cherish Scott's loving memory is his wife of 40 years Kolby VanDyke; daughter: Carly (Bradley) Van Sickle; brother Mark VanDyke; and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with the family's wishes cremation has taken place and a public celebration of his life will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes, 5975 Lovers Lane, Portage, MI 49002 starting at 11:00 a.m. Memorials made in Scott's memory may be directed to Alcoholics Anonymous.
