Scott William Canney passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 in Belleair Beach, FL at the age of 63. He was born September 21, 1958 in Battle Creek, MI to the late Lewis Charles and Wanda June (Plotner) Canney. Scott attended Hackett Catholic High School through 11th grade, when the Canney family moved to Lawton, Michigan, where Scott attended and graduated from Mattawan Consolidated High School, with the class of 1976. Scott started his business career at the very young age of 16, while running routes for his father's family business, Culligan of Kalamazoo, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Scott worked and assisted in running the Culligan of Kalamazoo family business until purchasing four of his own water treatment companies; Canney's Water Treatment, located in Allegan and Saugatuck, merging them into one business, as well as investing in 50% ownership of two Florida Culligan water treatment businesses under the business name of Gulf Coast Water Conditioning, Inc. Always wanting to move south, to the warmer state of Florida, Scott was always planning ahead for his future retirement. Scott eventually sold Canney's Water Treatment of Allegan and permanently relocated south to Belleair Beach, Florida, where the weather was beautiful all year around. Scott loved Florida with a passion! He enjoyed spending everyday with his loving partner, Stephanie Freeborn; basking in the sun, grilling out on his deck with family, friends and loved ones, walking along the beaches, riding his bicycles and scooters, boating, attending outdoor concerts with his favorite bands, playing the music he loved, relaxing and enjoying the evening sunsets, all while having great conversations with everyone around him. He was a man with a huge heart, who shared his love for life with everyone! Always a smile and laughter wherever Scott would venture, with a strong desire to help many people who were going through rough times in life, and as we all know, his friendships were forever! Even though he lived 1,500 miles from his family, his love for his family was deep in his heart and strong beyond belief. Family was always number one in his life. Scott is survived by his four siblings: Brian (Patrice) Canney of Portage, brother-in-law, Ken DeVisser of Mattawan, Sean (Lori) Canney of Portage, Kevin (Vicky) Canney of Edwardsburg, Mary Jane (Jim) Canney Midgett of Kalamazoo; loving partner, Stephanie Freeborn of Belleair Beach, FL; 10 nieces and nephews, Megan (Jacob) VanOrder of Chicago, IL, Kristen (John) Noble of Portage, Dr. Michael DeVisser of Rockford, IL, Lisa (Travis) Thompson of Kalamazoo, Austin (Autumn Papineau) Canney of Kalamazoo, Devin Canney of Kalamazoo, Brandon (Davie) Canney of Kalamazoo, Katie (Phil) Koch of Schoolcraft, Karmen (Chris) Rimes of Edwardsburg, and Alexander (Mackenzie Brower) Midgett of Grand Rapids and 17 great nieces and nephews.
