Saundra Kay Ives, age 86, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Bronson Methodist Hospital.

Saundra was born on February 15, 1940, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Harold and Josie (Dewyze) Streich. She graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1957, where a lifelong love of music was nurtured, particularly her deep appreciation for gospel music.

For 31 years, Saundra was employed as a typist with Title Bond and Mortgage, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

Saundra was first married to Norman Koning, and together they were blessed with four sons. Following Norman's passing at a young age, Saundra continued to devote herself to her family. On November 1, 2003, she married David Ives at Oak Grove Bible Church, beginning a wonderful chapter of companionship, faith, and service together.

An avid bowler and golfer, Saundra participated in numerous women's leagues throughout the years. She especially enjoyed golfing at Grand Prairie Golf Course and bowling at many of the local bowling centers. Her competitive spirit led her to compete in several women's tournaments, where she earned numerous trophies and accolades for her outstanding abilities.

Family was at the center of Saundra's life. She treasured gathering with loved ones to play board and card games, particularly Yahtzee and Monopoly. Her family fondly remembers her determination to win and the laughter that always accompanied game nights.

Saundra also loved to travel, especially to family reunions held in Tennessee, a cherished meeting place for relatives from across the country. She enjoyed many memorable trips to North Carolina, Georgia, and Branson, Missouri.

Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. As the wife of Pastor David Ives, Saundra faithfully served alongside him at Oak Grove Bible Church. Whether helping with clerical work, preparing meals, greeting members and visitors, or simply lending a helping hand wherever needed, she joyfully supported the ministry and the church family she loved so dearly.

Saundra is survived by her loving husband, David Ives; her sons, Ken Koning, Larry (Sarah) Koning, Dennis (Laurie) Koning, and Gary (Erika) Koning; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Josie Streich; her first husband, Norman Koning; her sisters, Lois and Beverly; and her daughter-in-law, Laurie Koning.

Funeral services for Saundra will take place at Oak Grove Bible Church 7655 Ravine Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1, from 4 to 8 PM and Thursday, July 2, from 10 to 11 AM followed by the funeral service. Lunch will be held at church, and a graveside service will take place the same day at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park – South at 2 PM

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Oak Grove Bible Church or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission 448 N. Burdick St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
