Sally Jo Pickens (née Catton), aged 84, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Portage, Mich. Sally was daughter of Stetson and Mary Jo (Maxwell) Catton, born on March 22, 1941, in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Sally graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1959, where she formed lifelong friendships, she cherished throughout her life. After attending Western Michigan University, she went on to build a vibrant career that blended her passions for dance and wellness.

In 1998, Sally married Mike Pickens, the love of her life. Their marriage, a beautiful testament to the joy and deep connection found in a second chapter, was filled with unwavering love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. Together, they made a home in Kalamazoo, where they spent 27 wonderful years building a life full of warmth and companionship.

Sally was a devoted member of several churches throughout her life, ultimately finding her spiritual home at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Portage. Her faith was a constant source of strength and purpose, grounding her through all stages of life and remaining especially meaningful in her later years.

Sally is survived by her husband, Mike Pickens; sons, Joel (Deborah) and David (Julie) Burkey; stepchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Pickens and Kelly (Eric Ezbenko); grandchildren, Madeline, Joseph, Samuel, Cole, and Raeann Burkey, Camden and Kinsley Pickens, and Noah and Ella Ezbenko; sisters, Jill Anderson and Susan (Michael) Stewart; and sister-in-law, Patti Cerny. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stetson and Mary Jo (Maxwell) Catton.

A visitation will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Home, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, Mich. 49009, on August 20, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. A celebration of life will follow the next day at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Portage at 11 a.m., lunch will follow the service. Following lunch there will be a graveside service for immediate families at Hope Cemetery.
