Age 84, of Manton, Michigan and Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, October, 20, 2019. Royce was born October 24, 1934, in Manton, Michigan, the first child of Virgil and Evelyn (Lawton) Nye. Big brother to sister Ardeth (Brian) Larkins, of Arizona, and brother Ronald (Cathy) Nye of Mississippi. His brother, Terry Nye, preceded him in death. Royce is an uncle to many special nieces and nephews, a grandfather to five and great-grandfather to two. Royce married Joan Ingersoll on August 4,1956. They were very happily married for 58 years. Joan preceded him in death in 2014. He is survived by his four children Royce Lynn (Melody) Nye, Jr., Laura Nye, Lesa (Bill Bogue) Nye, and Larry Nye. After high school, he attended Northwestern Michigan College on a basketball scholarship and received his BS degree from Central Michigan University. In 1957, he began a very fulfilling career as a teacher and basketball coach at W. K. Kellogg Agricultural High School/Gull Lake High School. After retiring from teaching in 1986, Royce and Joan moved to Tucson, Arizona. Around 1998, they "were very fortunate" to begin spending summers in their hometown of Manton and continued winters in Tucson. Royce served with pride on the Manton Alumni Association Board since 1999 and served as Chairman of the Manton Alumni Association Board/R.W. Harris Scholarship since 2008 (11 years). He will be greatly missed by his family, Manton Schools, the Manton Senior Center, the many students who respected him and his buddies at Casa Del Rio. A celebration of life luncheon/story-telling will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. at The Dock, 12504 East "D" Avenue, Richland, Michigan. A luncheon honoring Royce will be held at Manton Senior Center on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. in Manton, Michigan.
