Ronald Mohney

Ron Mohney, 70, of Astatula, Florida, passed away on August 4, 2026. He was born on April 16, 1956, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to John and Jane Mohney. Ron was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Michelle, a loving father to his sons, Zac (Angela) Mohney, Steve Mohney, and Duane (Megan) Klutts, and a loving "Pops/Papa Ron" to Erikai, Ash, Avie, Tazen, Kelsey, Jaylon, Anna, Emily, and Mackenzie. He also recently found out he had a great grandson who he was looking forward to meeting.

Ron had a heart for people and did whatever he could to show them he cared-he had a special way of letting you know you were loved. His love for others led to his career as a radiation therapist where he spent 21 years touching lives during some of their darkest times. That same love also brought many kids into his life. While his kids were teens, Ron's house became a place to hang out, and Ron became a second dad to many of them. Those "kids" always held a special place in his heart and gave him the nickname "Papa Bear". As his final act of love, Ron gave the gift of sight by donating his corneas.

In his free time, Ron used to enjoy playing softball, bowling, fishing, playing games, and riding motorcycles, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his friends and family. Some of his fondest memories were made on the family fishing trips to Camp Anjigami and with the "Thursday Night Fishing Club".

Ron had a steadfast faith, and he loved sharing it with others. You didn't have to spend much time with him to hear stories about what God had done in his life. Over the past 20+ years, Ron had experienced many health challenges, but he continued to live life to the best of his ability and believed God had a purpose for everything he went through. He often encouraged others he met who were facing health challenges. He also looked forward to the men's Bible studies (both at KFM and Trinity) and cherished the friendships he made through church.

Ron is survived by his dad, wife, kids, grandkids, great grandson, his brothers and sisters-in-law, John & Barb Mohney, Jim & Jodi Mohney, Tom & Kerry Mohney, Marsha Park, and Maurine Park, and his mother-in-law, Nancy Park. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews-Joel & Heather, Janel & Bob, Bryan & Elizabeth, Ellie, Kendie & Justin, Cali, Kyle & Tynan, Krista, Harrison, Abigail, and Lailah-as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Ron especially treasured his role as "Uncle Ron" and the special bond he shared with each of them. Ron will also be dearly missed by many friends and extended family members.

Per his wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life at Kalamazoo Free Methodist Church (931 W. Maple St., Kalamazoo, MI 49008) on September 19th at 10:30 am for our friends and family in Michigan with a luncheon and time of fellowship following the service. There will also be a Celebration of Life at Trinity Church (890 Abrams Rd., Eustis, FL 32726) on October 3rd at 11:00 am for our friends and family in Florida with a luncheon and time of fellowship following the service.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ron's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. As a radiation therapist, this would be especially meaningful to him.
