Robert "Bob" H. Poel passed away on August 4, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan almost one year after being diagnosed with ALS. He was born in Kalamazoo on February 10, 1941, and raised in Comstock. He was the son of the late Andrew and Gertrude (Poortenga) Poel. He attended Comstock Christian School and graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1958. He graduated from Kalamazoo College and WMU with his PhD before embarking on a long career at WMU in science education. In 1965, he married Mary Jo Weaver and they spent nearly 60 years together. Bob was an avid gardener, reader, baker, runner, and bicyclist. He was a faithful follower of Christ. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother Jim Poel. He is survived by his wife and children, Amy (Mary Tripoli) Poel and Peter Poel; his sisters and bother-in-laws Joyce (Glen) Walstra and Marilyn (Paul) Braman, and sisters-in-law Lois Poel and Linda Jackson. Services will be held at 2 p.m.m on August 13th, at First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo with a reception to follow.
