Robert "Bob" James Lane, age 63, of Grand Rapids, MI our larger than life story teller, was unexpectedly taken to his eternal home on Monday, October 17, 2016. Born in Detroit, Michigan on May 19, 1953, he left us all too soon. Bob is survived by: his loving wife of 40 years, Karen (Babel) Lane; his four children he was so proud of- Jon Lane, Jenny Wolf (Steve), Michelle Jones (Charlie), and Kara Lane Bennett; his nine grandchildren that he loved with all of his heart, who affectionately called him "Poppy"- Caleb, Kenzie, Taylor, Laney and Wesley Wolf, Owen Lane, Peyton, Graham and Beckett Jones; his favorite mother-in-law Phyllis Babel; and his eight siblings - Tom Lane, Michael Lane (Diane), Katie Lane K, Richard Lane (Heidi), Jack Lane (Jeannie), Bill Lane, Janice Burton (Paul), Julie Leep (Bruce). He is preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth "Betty" Chase and he is the first of her 9 children that she called home to be with her in heaven. He always knew he was her favorite! He also is preceded in death by his father-in-law Lawrence Babel. Bob worked hard in life and provided his wife and kids with many memories of vacations and time spent together. He loved his family, spending time at Betty's beach, boating, his infamous brother's trips, Lake Leelanau, playing blackjack and euchre, telling stories, and enjoying good spirits. Bob loved attending the various sporting events of his children and grandchildren and would always be found standing and cheering them on. You'd recognize Bob by his deep booming voice, visor on his head, and his year round boat shoes. His presence filled every room he entered and laughter soon followed. He was our hero, the heart of our family, and we look forward to the day we see him in heaven. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Ofield Funeral Home, with a rosary taking place at 4:30 p.m., 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE in Kentwood.
