Robert Dale Hoover, 79, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, after a battle with pneumonia due to COVID 19. Bob was born August 25, 1941 in Ionia, Michigan, the son of the late Aloysius and Marion (Kaufman) Hoover. He married Suzanne (Wisler) Hoover on December 20, 1969. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 2019 with the immediate family.Bob attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School from 1948-1959. He was class president and graduated Valedictorian in 1959. He was a member of the Knights of the Alter and the Scholastic Honor Society. He participated in basketball and was a newspaper carrier for the Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard and received an Outstanding Newspaper boy annual award.In September 1959 Bob enrolled at Aquinas College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in 1963. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with the U.S. general accounting office. After six months Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was sent to White Sands Missile Range located in New Mexico, serving as an accounting specialist for his remaining tour of duty. He then came home and enrolled in the graduate school of Management and Marketing at Western Michigan University, graduating with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in August 1966. After receiving an MBA, Bob accepted a permanent position in general accounting at the UpJohn Company until his retirement in 1999. In 1979 he passed the exams and received a Certificate of Management Accounting (CMA). Bob enjoyed all sports and participated in bowling, golf, tennis and swimming. Bob enjoyed many fun winters in Florida and loved spending summers at our cottage on beautiful Torch Lake. Robert is survived by Suzanne, his wife of 50 years, two daughters, Bethany (Chris) Howard of Mattawan and Sheree (Jason) Kappen of Cass City: six grandchildren, Lauren and Logan Howard, Isabelle, Rylan, Sawyer and Jackson Kappen and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was a sister, Margaret Streeter. A favorite quote from Suzanne to Bob: " I journeyed to the rainbows end and found not gold but you my friend." Private services are being held for Bob. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona, Michigan.
