Richard Coy Spigelmyer, age 93 of Kalamazoo, died on August 27, 2025. He was born on February 7, 1932, in Kalamazoo, the son of Coy and Dorothy (Gross) Spigelmyer. Dick was an Eagle Scout and a 1950 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. While in school, he held the role of a multi-term class president. Dick was a 1954 graduate of Western Michigan University, receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration. He was in the ROTC program at WMU and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed thespian work and was in several Civic Theater productions. On April 12, 1957, he married his high school and college sweetheart, Barbara Youdell. Dick worked in roofing with his father at C. Spigelmyer & Sons Roofing. He then began his own successful historical building restoration business, RSI. Dick maintained several historical homes in Kalamazoo. He was nationally recognized for his work on numerous notable historically-prominent buildings, including the Old Kentucky State House and Utah State Capitol building. A lifelong church member, Dick was a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church for many years and was active in the formation of St. Andrew Community Church. Dick was a gifted storyteller and had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was always generous and thoughtful of others. His family includes his wife of 68 years, Barbara Spigelmyer; his sister-in-law, Judith Holmes; his special nephew Jerry Nigg; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn (Spigelmyer) Johnson-Martin. Friends may gather with his family on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM at St. Andrew Community Church, 3631 Covington Rd, Kalamazoo, MI 49001, where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorials may be directed to St. Andrew Community Church or a charity of choice.
