Dick, age 81, died Saturday, December 29, 2018 at his residence with his loving family at his side. Dick, the son of Richard and Roberta (Behlke) Shive was born in Battle Creek on August 13, 1937; was a lifetime area resident and a 1957 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He retired in 2000 after 37 years of faithful service as a Lineman for Post Cereals. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and was especially proud of the Black Bear he shot that was big enough to make the National Pope and Young record book. He was a longtime member of Michigan Bear Hunters Association, the Michigan Bow Hunters Association and the Eagles Aerie # 299 of Battle Creek. Dick was united in marriage to the former, Anna Mae Gauss in Battle Creek on February 27, 1961. Surviving is his loving wife of almost 58 years, Ann; his two daughters, Cathy (finance': Craig Seppa) Jones of Augusta and Cindi Shepard of Battle Creek; his son, Richard (Shelley) Shive of Battle Creek; nine precious grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; four sisters, Angela Norton, Jean Millsap, Robin Woods and Tina Burton and by three brothers, Donald, Terry and John Shive. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Anson H. Brown; a granddaughter, Kiersten Shive-Stewart; his brother, Bill and a special cousin, "Rick" Behlke. Dick's family will greet friends on Thursday, January 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. The Funeral Service to celebrate Dick's life will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Gorlitz, Pastor of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, officiating. Interment will follow in Day Cemetery, Ross Township, MI. Family and friends will continue Dick's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the committal service at St. Paul's Social Hall, 349 Capital Avenue, NE, Battle Creek.
