Passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Allegan County Medical Care Community, where has resided for over 8 years. He was born Jan. 2, 1928 in Detroit, MI. but lived in Allegan since early childhood. Dick graduated from Allegan High School in 1946, then earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Kalamazoo College in 1950. Upon becoming an officer of the U.S. Army, he served our country for three years during the Korean Conflict, being deployed there for a year. He was united in marriage to Beverly Ruth (Gorby) on March 4, 1951. He worked at, became a partner in, and then later bought the R.B.Huff 5c to $1.00 Store in Allegan in 1965. Upon retirement in 2004, the store was sold to Spring Grove Variety. A civic-minded businessman, Dick held active positions over many years on the Downtown Development Authority, Allegan Chamber of Commerce, both the Allegan City and County Planning Commissions, City Board of Review, and Grand Ravine Senior Housing Board of Directors, among many others. He also served energetically in the US Jaycees, Rotary International, and the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks. His interests were many and included sailing the Great Lakes, contributing to the community through his intellect and integrity, and being a consummate tinkerer - always fixing, improving, or inventing something around the house. Dick was preceded in death by Beverly, his best friend and adoring wife of 63 years, his daughter, Laurette Jan Huff, his parents, Roland Barnabee and Viola Grace (McMillen) Huff, his stepmother, Gladys (Bell) Huff. Also by his brother, Benjamin John (Ann) Huff, and his sister, Janet Ruth (Tom) Arnold and their respective spouses. He leaves his daughter Lynette Ruth Huff, son Brian Gorby (Nanette) Huff, granddaughter Megan (John) Von Schonhoff, grandson Alexander Huff, great grandson, Bernard (Ben) Von Schonhoff, great granddaughter Indra Von Schonhoff and many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and others who will miss his wisdom and subtle humor. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Allegan First Church of God, 1313 Marshall St., Allegan.
