Richard Holmes, 77 of Sebring, FL, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his family by his side on Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was born in Kalamazoo on May 31, 1947, to Wesley and Elizabeth Holmes.

Richard graduated from Loy Norrix before serving in the United States Army. After his service, he returned to school at Detroit College of Business and earned his degree.

Richard spent his career at Crown Vantage in Parchment working in warehouse logistics for the papermill.

Richard married the former Wainetta Van Auken on December 12, 1969, and they were blessed with a loving family and over 55 years together.

Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing in Pentwater and at the family cabin at Kettle Hole. He found peace when he was in the woods or on the water.

Richard was a member of the Elks Lodge and was a Past Exalted Ruler. He was in the Elks camp club and enjoyed camping with his family and fellow members.

Above all, Richard was a true family man and always put his first. He and Wainetta enjoyed hosting the family gatherings and he made it a point to catch up with the entirety of his extended family. He had a strong sense of humor and found great joy in making others laugh with his antics.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Wainetta, children Heidi Tyner and Scott Holmes, grandchildren Nicole Merda, Joseph Tyner, and Andrew Tyner, great grandson Ryder King, siblings Barbara (Fran) Schneider, Gerry Bender, Sandy (Herm) Kent, David (Kathy) Holmes, Kathy (Paul) Herman, and Chris (Tim) Hammock, brother-in-law Danny (Carol) Van Auken, several nieces and nephews, and a dearly loved extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Elizabeth Holmes, his in laws Wayne and Marian Van Auken, brother John Holmes, sister Pam Warner, son-in-law Jody Tyner, and sister-in-law Donna Dangler.
