Richard George Gorny, 68 of Traverse City, died, Friday, May 13, 2016.

He was born on February 22, 1948 in Detroit the son of Edmund Joseph and Catherine Victoria (Harbiwcz) Gorny. He graduated from the Wyandotte High School.

He married, Cherie Lynn Sharlow on December 2, 1977. He graduated from the Detroit Engineering Institute with a certification in Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration. In 1983, Richard and his family moved to Traverse City. He started in service with Climatron and became the service manager. He retired with more than 20 years of service. He was the owner of Strickly Service in Traverse City the last 5 years.

Richard and Cherie attended St. Francis Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and the outdoors. He loved the game of hockey and coaching his children's teams. He was very well know to the many hockey players as "Coach." As child he was a drummer with the Wyandotte Royal Lancers.

Richard is survived by his wife, Cherie Gorny; children, Erik (Lisa) Gorny, Bryan (Marissa) Gorny, Joshua (Catherine) Gorny and Renee (Eric) Gorny all of Traverse City and 12 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
