Age 88, passed away at his home on January 14, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 13, 1932, in Three Rivers, MI, the son of the late Harry and Catherine (Keegan) Carruth. Ray spent his childhood in Kalamazoo, MI and was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central, Class of 1951. After graduating high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a cook during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he returned to make Kalamazoo his home. Ray was kind, loving and a joy to know. He was immensely proud of his Irish and Scottish heritage. He made several trips to Scotland during his lifetime, returning to the beginning of his family line at Lands of Carruth, Scotland. Ray was a hard worker who retired from KalSec after many years. He was also the owner operator of the I-94 Citgo for several years. When not working, Ray enjoyed spending time working around his home and spending time constructing model cars. He loved his family and his friends, and he leaves them with many wonderful memories to cherish. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. On June 14, 1952, he married the love of his life, Joyce Carruth who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Ralene Deneau, Rhonda (Mike) Cassell, Renee (Jeff) Jones; eight grandchildren, Erin (Andrew) Diamond, Stefanie (Devin Taylor) Deneau, Nicole (Jay Cunnick) Spero, Daniel Spero, Adam Cassell, Brianna (Raymond) Leck, Kyle (Carolyn) Jones, Kristopher (Dalya) Jones; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Diamond, Conner Diamond, Maya Spero; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was also preceded in passing by five siblings, Robert Remynse, Ruth Parker, Richard Carruth, Harry Carruth and Eleanor Follin; a son-in-law, Dennis Deneau. Ray will be interred at Ft. Custer National Cemetery during a private family ceremony. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the charity of one's choice, c/o the funeral home.
