Ray Eugene Turner danced back into the home realm on January 21, 2026; lighthearted, curious, and unmistakably himself. Those who walked alongside him know this was not so much a goodbye as a joyful shifting of planes, a soul changing rooms while the music kept playing.

Ray was born to Elwyn and Rose Turner, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lauren Charlton. Ray is survived by his brothers, Mark (Linda) Turner and Scott (Muggs) Turner, along with his nieces and nephews: Heather Turner, Jessica Ebels, Stacy Erway, Jamie (Jarrod) Hunt, David (Janel) Charlton, Theresa (Mike) Burgos, Eric Turner, and Katy (Steve) Mayr. He is also lovingly remembered by great-nieces and nephews, dear friends, and a wide constellation of kindred spirits-those who recognized immediately that Ray was, without question, the coolest.

A deeply creative soul, Ray found his voice through music and art, expressing color, sound, and feeling with quiet conviction. He valued independence and lived life on his own terms-guided by authenticity, solitude, and creative freedom. Inspired by Rumi, he would often say "It is all about loving - or not loving." Ray embraced a philosophy of love, introspection, and spiritual curiosity that quietly shaped his art and his way of being in the world. A true lover of music, Ray famously attended Woodstock, an experience that reflected and fueled his lifelong connection to creativity and self-expression. His artistic spirit lives on in the works he created in his downtown Kalamazoo studio, in the distinctive belt buckle designs he crafted through Tech Ether Guild-the company he helped bring to life-and in the music he shaped at Ashmere. Each expression carried his unmistakable signature: thoughtful, intuitive, and quietly rebellious. His lyrics, in particular, revealed a rare gift for saying exactly what needed to be said-often with a wink, and always from a place of truth.

We will feel him when creativity strikes out of nowhere, when laughter bubbles up unexpectedly, when the air feels charged with possibility. Ray reminds us that life is art, that art is play, and that some souls come through simply to keep the vibration high. And that-very much-was Ray.
