Phyllis Elaine Severson went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, August 6, 2009. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Holland. Phyllis graduated from Hope College in 1948 with a major in music. She was a gifted vocalist, organist, and pianist. For 35 years, she taught elementary school music, most recently in Holland Schools, and served many years as organist and choir director in Holland’s First Baptist Church.

Phyllis loved God and had steadfast faith in Him. She struggled 40 years with Multiple Sclerosis, yet was neither bitter nor complaining. Instead, she fought the battle with dignity, never losing her love for laughter nor her ability to carry on a conversation with enthusiasm and wisdom. She had a wonderful smile and was a great blessing and testimony to the love of God to everyone who knew and met her. Her talent for music was exceeded only by her ability to face adversity with extreme grace. She was a wonderful wife and mother and will be sorely missed by her family.

Phyllis Severson was preceded in death by her daugh-ter, Bonny Elaine Topp. She is survived by her husband, Jack Severson; her daughter, Amy Kamps; son-in-law, Bill Topp; grandchildren, Jason Kamps, Paul Topp, Joe Topp, Katie Topp; great grandchild, Kendal Topp.

A life celebration service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Calvary Baptist Church of Holland, 517 W. 32nd St.
