Phillip Jerome Handy, age 60, of Battle Creek, died March 18, 2009. Phil was born August 12, 1948 in Battle Creek the son of Clarence and Udetta (Ross) Handy. Phil worked at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek for 26 years starting in the canteen and then for the I.T.P. program. He was a member of the Bethlehem Temple-Pentecostal Church in Bedford Twp. Phil enjoyed barbequing, listening to jazz, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Besides his wife Heather, Phil is survived by his children: Brent (Danelle) Maxwell of Indianapolis, Francisca O'Neal, Nicole (Frederick) Moore III, Phillip J. Robinson, and Phillip Handy, Jr., all of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren; his brother: David King, Jr. and his stepfather: David King, Sr., both of Battle Creek; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Phil was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson: Dominic Robinson-Nicholson; and his brother: William Handy. A celebration of Phil's life will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Temple-Pentecostal Church, Battle Creek with Pastor Michael Eubanks officiating. He will lie in state at church on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of his service. Burial will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials in Phil's name may be directed to the family for funeral expenses. Arrangements by the Royal Funeral Home, Battle Creek.
