Philip Beal died on June 30, 2009. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons Dayna and Dwight, daughter- in- law Marlys and his four grand-children Madisyn, Hadyn, Kyler and Landyn Beal. He is also survived by his sister Priscilla Greenwood of Webster City, IA and sister- in- law Jean Beal of Rockford, IL, as well as nieces and nephews Nancy (Stephen) Stodden, Philip Bair, David Bair, and Daniel (Gaelyn) Beal and other nieces, neph-ews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Ellery and Marian Beal, his brother Maynard Beal and nephew Christo-pher Beal. An open house will be held, Friday, July 10, from 4 to 7 PM with a memorial service on Saturday, July 11 at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th Street. Lunch will follow in the fellowship hall. Phil attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA, Garrett Seminary in Evanston, IL, and received a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University. After completing a PhD in higher education and counseling at the University of Oregon he spent 27 years in university administration at Eastern Illinois University, University of Oregon, Pacific Lutheran University, NCHEMS in Boulder CO, Saginaw Valley State University and Hope College where he was the Dean of Students. Phil and his wife Kathy then spent 11 years as full- time missionaries through the United Methodist Church in Singapore, Seoul, Korea and Holland, MI.
