Paula Hernandez

Hernandez, Paula 6/18/1926 - 1/8/2021 Kalamazoo Paula Perez Hernandez passed away peacefully Friday, January 08, 2021. She was born in Nava, Mexico on June 18, 1926, the daughter of Vicente and Guadalupe Hernandez. Growing up, Paula enjoyed spending time with her Grandma and going to dances at the plaza in Mexico. On January 26, 1945, she was married Jose Hernandez and enjoyed 51 years of marriage prior to his death in 1997. Paula retired from Western Michigan University. She loved cooking. Paula's special dishes were tamales, buneleos, and her famous menudo and tacos. She loved gardening and birds. She enjoyed traveling to Texas and California, picnics, Sunday drives, and family gatherings. Her 80th birthday party was extra special with a surprise mariachi band. She was a caring Mother that instilled a solid work ethic and taught her family how to cook with love. She was a perfect grand mother and her influence is carried on with her great grandchildren. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Jose, two brothers, Alejandro Perez and Vincente Perez. sisters, Cruz Davila and Crescencia Zabila. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Guadalupe (Christine) Hernandez of Galesburg, Paul (Ida) Hernandez, Jose (Tina) Hernandez, all from Michigan. Four grandchildren, Maria Hernandez, Christina and Tony Hernandez, and Andrea (Matt) Zerilli, as well as great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St Joseph Catholic Church, with Msgr. Michael Hazard officiating, later in the spring of 2021.
