Patricia (Pat) Marie Doan died peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021 in Madisonville, Texas. Patricia was born on May 27, 1956 in Newark, New Jersey the daughter of Daniel J. and Doris J. Daly. The family moved to Kalamazoo in 1964. A few short days after graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1974, Pat left Kalamazoo to work on Arabian horse farms. Her first job was in Lansing, Michigan. From there she moved to London, Ontario where she met her husband Mark Doan, a horse trainer. They traveled around the country to national shows caring for the horses she loved. She was known to be able to walk into the stalls of champion horses four times her size and calm them within seconds. She always knew the names and pedigrees of the many hundreds of horses she managed and spent many nights in the barns watching and assisting mares bring their beloved foals into the world. Her siblings were fascinated with her life and loved visiting her at the farms where she worked. A favorite farm was in Westcliff, Colorado where they not only managed a ranch with over 400 world class horses but there were also a herd of more than 2,500 buffalo. Riding ATV's and tractors around the ranch was something familiar to her, but wildly crazy for her family and she would just smile at her sibling's fascination with her life. In addition to her work with horses, while they lived in Owen Sound Ontario, she had a great eye for design and gave her husband Mark many projects with pieces of wood that became furniture they would sell at small markets in Ontario. Another business adventure included perfecting Texas barbecue to sell at weekend festivals and motorcycle rallies. They relocated to Madisonville, Texas to manage a 300 acre hay and cattle ranch. Pat was a kind and gentle soul and was adored by everyone she came in contact with. She was described by her brother in law as someone who was "loved in the first few minutes of meeting her." She is deeply missed by Mark her husband and partner of 41 years and her family, her sister Kathleen Daly, niece Zoe Sharkey, her sister Noreen Gibbens, brother-in-law Gerry, her niece Josie and nephew Ross Gibbens, his fiancee Tiffany Livioti, great nephew Ryder, her brother Daniel J. Daly, her sister-in-law Jennifer Herrera, her nephew Danny Jr., and her brother John Daly. She will also be deeply missed by her mother-in-law, Gloria Doan, her partner Glen Catto and her brother in law Jamie Doan, her sister in law Kelly and nephews, Adam and Tyler. Pat loved her horses and the fate of wild mustangs was something she always wanted to support.
