VISSER (Comstock Park) - Pastor Thomas R. Visser, age 64, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 4, 2011. He attended Western Michigan University, Calvin College, Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music, and was ordained in July of 1983. Tom was a dedicated teacher at Grand Rapids Public Schools, but his true love was spending time with his family and serving the Lord. On October 11, 2009, he became pastor at Faith Fellowship Church in Comstock Park. This was spiritually meaningful to Tom since his grandfather built and pastored at this church. Tom grew up and was ordained at this church. He also served at the former Fellowship Bible Church in Comstock Park. Tom loved listening to the Grand Rapids Symphony, classical music, reading, and Shakespeare plays. He had a very extensive collection of classical music and books in his library at home. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children, Becky (Jeremy) Vaughn of Grand Rapids, Rachel (Erik) Laug of Ada, B.J. (Tara) Visser of AZ; grandchildren, Landon and Liam Visser, and Lilly Vaughn; his parents, Jack and Mary Visser of Comstock Park; brother, Tim (Connie) Visser and their family, Anne Visser and Andrew Visser; his in-laws, Jim Hart, and Steve and Liz Spieker and their children, Katy, Kyle, Keith and Kurt. The service for Pastor Visser will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Calvary Church (on the East Beltline) with Pastor Bruce Huseby officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Faith Fellowship Church, 3931 Leland St., Comstock Park, MI 49321. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Pederson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford www.pedersonfuneralhome.com
