Olga Marie "Mary" (Haire) Gibbs, 88, affectionately known as "Cubby" by her family and a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, March 04, 2009 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI. She was born February 26, 1921 in Battle Creek, MI, the daughter of Elias R. and Elsie E. (Westcott) Haire. Mary was the co-owner with her husband of the old Driftwood Lounge which was later named The Other Place in 1968 and then sold in 1975. She was a past employee of Kellogg's, Post Cereals and later was a laboratory manager for the Farm Bureau in Climax, MI. Mary is survived by Son: David Gibbs of Battle Creek, MI; Sister: Maxine (Haire) Phillips of Kalamazoo, MI; Grandson: Jeff Gibbs of McMinville, TN; Granddaughter: Arenda Muller of Chicago, IL; and Great-Grandchildren: Margaret Holly and Marc Holly of Virginia Beach, VA and Hannah Mueller of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her Husband: Edward E. Gibbs (1988); Brothers: Elwin Haire and Walter Haire; and Sister: Jacqueline (Haire) Greene. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church a past member of the Women's League, a life member of the Elks 131 lodge. She was an anxiety group leader for several years and a volunteer at the Burnham Brook Center. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with Vigil services at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 9, 2009, 11:30 a.m. at the St. Jerome Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Tran officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
