Norma Lucille (Tompkins) Reeves, age 93 died Monday, September 9, 2019 at her residence, White Oaks Assisted Living, Lawton, MI. Even when her memory failed her, she knew her children, and even when she could not speak, she managed a smile. A wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grand mother. Always in our hearts. Norma was born September 15, 1925 in Coldwater, MI where she grew up on her family's farm. She was the oldest of four children born to Lee and Hazel (Stickan) Tompkins. When she was 18, Norma took a train from Coldwater to North Carolina where she married her high school sweetheart, Martin "Mike" Reeves, who was waiting to board a ship headed to Europe and WWII. Following the war in 1952, she and Mike left Coldwater and moved to the Kalamazoo/Portage area where they made their home, raised their family, and lived out their lives together until Mike's death on November 9, 2010. Norma will be placed at the Ft. Custer National Cemetery, next to Mike, the love of her life. They were long time active members of the Oakwood Bible Church. She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Fred) Neubauer, Gerald (Susan) Reeves, Michael (Annette)) Reeves; grandchildren, Eric (Melissa) Reeves, Kristen (Vince) Workman, Kelsey (Karianne) Reeves, Kurt (Kala) Reeves, Jeff Neubauer, and Kurt (Elisabet) Neubauer; great-grandchildren, Nina, Kirsten, Gavin, Max, Lauryn, Maya, Noelle, Roen, and Connor; her sister and brother, Joyce Heller, Edward (Lucy) Tompkins; brother-in-law, Eugene Kelsey; and several nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin "Mike" Reeves, and sister, Evelyn Kelsey. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, September 18 at the Oakwood Bible Church, 4100 Oakland Drive. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Private family interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Oakwood Bible Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
